(Tweed and re-issue)
The Fender Tweed Deluxe (5E3) amp of the 1950s was a medium-powered unit designed to let guitarists “hold their own” in a small group. As Blues, Western, and Rockabilly bands began getting louder, the overdriven tone of a cranked-up Deluxe found its way onto many live and recorded performances.

Suggestion #1: 12A125-A (8 ohm, 30w, light dope)
11oz alnico magnet / 1.25” voice coil. Authentic sounding choice for woody, reedy, late 50’s / early 60’s Fender tone. Tight low end, detailed high end. Compressed and fattened at higher volumes. This is the choice for a dead-on classic bluesy Tweed Deluxe tone.

Suggestion #2: 12A125-S (8 ohm, 30w, light dope)
Same 11oz alnico magnet and 1.25” voice coil but with a mid 60’s cone. moderate breakup, good moderate tone, very versatile. This one has more of a well-rounded and “medium” tone. For players looking to coax a bit more flexibilty from the relatively “one-trick-pony” 5E3 amp circuit.
